Birthday Book Program

As parents of Montessori school students, we are aware that our childrens education involves more than academics. Among other things, our children learn about community and giving. It is in this spirit of giving that Hermosa has previously supported a Birthday Book Program. The Birthday Book program adds the dimension of "giving" to a student and familys celebration of a very special event. Birthdays are celebrated in various ways in Hermosas classrooms. The presentation of a "birthday book adds to the classroom celebration with a gift that will live on for years to come.

Next time your family celebrates a student's birthday, consider the Birthday Book Program. It is very simple! Choose a book with your students input, if appropriate, and let your child present the gift to their class in honor of their birthday. The teacher will acknowledge the gift in class, stamp the book with a commemorative stamp in honor of your childs birthday, and add the book to the classroom library.



Some parents have hesitated to present a "birthday book" because they were unsure of the appropriateness of their choice. Dont worry; just consider whether the choice will be appropriate for your child and family. Try to involve your student, too. He/she might have a favorite book to share with classmates. Students are also familiar with the classroom libraries, and might know if a book will be a duplicate. If the book you choose is a duplicate, the extra copy will still be beneficial. If you like the Birthday Book Program, but are still unsure of the appropriateness of a title, or just dont have time to choose, a gift card would be welcomed. All "birthday books" will be presented during class time to honor the giving student, stamped with a commemorative stamp, and added to the classroom library. If your students birthday occurs when school is not in session, you and your child can still participate anytime.

I hope you will consider participating the program. It helps the classrooms AND helps your child learn about giving as part of their birthday celebration.
